9/11 Defendant Deemed Unfit for Trial Due to Psychological Issues

A military judge at Guantanamo Bay has ruled that Ramzi bin al-Shibh, one of the five defendants charged in connection with the 9/11 attacks, is unfit to stand trial in a death-penalty case. Al-Shibh has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, associated psychotic features, and a delusional disorder. His lawyer claims his client was subjected to torture by the CIA.
Al-Shibh, who is 51 years old and from Yemen, was arrested in Pakistan in 2002 and transferred to Guantanamo Bay in 2006. His mental health has been a concern since his first court appearance in 2008, with disruptive outbursts during hearings.
